Despite the continued brutality of elements within the Iranian regime against any form of opposition in the aftermath of the Iranian elections, we see that the world’s attention is slowly shifting away from Iran. Everyday there are news of illegal arrests, forced confessions, torture, rape allegations, and large-scale violation of human rights in Iran. We cannot stay silent.

We, a number of Iranian students at Stanford University, are planning a series of events with the purpose of raising awareness about the current situation in Iran. This initiative aims at organizing talks in the bay area by prominent scholars who have voiced their opinions on the recent events in our country. For our first event, we are eager to invite Professor Hamid Dabashi to speak at Stanford Campus. Professor Dabashi is the Hagop Kevorkian Professor of Iranian Studies and Comparative Literature at Columbia University.

As we are not affiliated with any political party or organization, we will need to independently raise funds to hold these educational events. To fund our first event, we have organized a noncompetitive walk at Stanford Dish on Sunday, August 30th at 4pm. Our minimum suggested donation is $20 and for donations of more than $30 you will receive a t-shirt designed by the organizers. If you are unable to attend the walk, please still consider helping us by making a donation of any amount.
